| This charming small town of 37,105 inhabitants was originally named San Miguel Arcángel or San Miguel de Hato Grande. The present name was adopted in 1901. PR Road 181 crosses San Lorenzo, linking it to Gurabo on the north and Patillas in the south. Easiest way to reach San Lorenzo is from Caguas on PR Road 183. The patron saint for San Lorenzo is "Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes", celebrated on August 10. San Lorenzo's mountainous terrain and valleys are the bases for fertile lands and prosperous agriculture. Among several distinguished natives of San Lorenzo, world-famous popular singer Chayanne (Elmer Figueroa Arce) may be said to have been the one to "put San Lorenzo on the map". |
